Chris Gerwel wrote a new post, Crossroads: The Cores of Literary Fiction and Speculative Fiction 1 day, 2 hours ago

ThumbnailThe relationship between speculative fiction and mainstream literary fiction is complicated by decades of group identity dynamics, mutual ignorance, and overbroad critical generalizations about both genres. […]

Thanks for the very intelligent post. I wasn’t aware of some of the specific legality regarding screenplays that you describe. It makes sense to publish an original novel to protect yourself first, I think. I […]

Nice images. I’ve seen a few on the Deviant Art website myself. Under the plate is one of my favorite images here. I think it handles light and shadow well.

I’m sorry to hear about the gallblader and I hope […]

ThumbnailAs a kid, I never liked Tolkien very much.  I loved The Hobbit, like anyone did, but couldn’t ever obsess over Lord of the Rings.  I could never get past the writing style heavy on description, the obsession with […]

    ThumbnailWhy not do both?

    Let’s start with Trek.

The new Star Trek movie Into Darkness debuts this month.  The word of mouth seems good from the few people I know who have seen advance screenings as do regular folks […]

    Hi Chris–

Nice article covering the genre mash up over films and thanks for a good smattering of the essential graphics. In particular, The Ghastly Love of Johnny X is spot on considering its […]

    Hi Douglas – -

Thanks for sharing the excerpt. Pretty cool. Pretty impressive. I was raised around, worked with, and had relationships with native Americans my whole life, so I’m intrigue by your story. Best of […]

Your article highlights the reasons for why we must pursue a presence on Mars. Sometimes I think it’s a shame the Cold War is over because another Space Race would do the Space Industry some good.

I can’t imagine applying either. The idea of a one way ticket to a hermitically sealed coffin condominium village surrounded by airless desert sounds far too much like some Sing-Sing death row setup outside of […]

    Hi Michael – -

Your last comment about the money up front is interesting. Most of the books I’ve read on writing screenplays –all written by accomplished screenwriters– actually indicate that that is usually […]

About

Amazing Stories was originally published by the Experimenter Publishing Company in 1926 and was the world's first science fiction magazine. Its owner, publisher and first editor was Hugo Gernsback who has been called the Father of Science Fiction. Amazing Stories was published continuously - by different publishers - until 1995. It was resurrected between 1998 and 2000 and again between 2004 and 2005. Now it is back again, published by a new version of the Experimenter Publishing Company, in a new format, with a bright new future awaiting it.
