Veronica Scott

Veronica Scott square photo250Veronica Scott is an award-winning, best-selling author of science fiction and fantasy romance, as well as the SciFi Encounters columnist for the USA Today Happily Ever After blog.

The first science fiction movie Veronica remembers seeing was “Forbidden Planet” on late night TV, when she was four. Her father was an avid science fiction fan and handed Veronica the Andre Norton novel Catseye at a very early age. There was no stopping her after that as she read through his shelves of the classics (Heinlein, E. E. Smith, ALL the Nortons, Eric Frank Russell, Robert Howard, Leinster, Pohl, Asimov and more….) devoured all the SF movies she could find, and started writing her own stories. The Tom Corbett, Tom Swift and Rick Brant series lined her book shelves along with Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew.

Mom loved ancient history and romance, so on that side of the family library Veronica also fell in love with the ancient world from Egypt to Rome, and decided there needed to be a lot more romance in the science fiction mix.

She never stopped writing, but life happened – college, marriage, kids, sudden widowhood – and Veronica had a distinguished career in the acquisition and subcontracts division at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She’s the proud recipient of a NASA Exceptional Service Medal, and is a NASA Lean Six Sigma Black Belt as well as an ISO Lead Assessor.
Veronica was first published in 2012 with her ancient Egyptian fantasy novel, Priestess of the Nile, released by Carina Press, a Harlequin imprint. This debut book was rapidly followed by the independent publication of her first science fiction adventure novel Wreck of the Nebula Dream (sometimes referred to as “Titanic in space”…). Veronica began pursuing her lifelong dream of becoming a fulltime writer. Today she’s achieved that goal, thanks to her readers, and continues to write, alternating between stories of a fantastical ancient Egypt and the high tech far future.
She spends entirely too much time on Twitter!

Favorite movies would be the original “Thing From Another World,” “Terminator,” “Aliens” and “Predator 2”. She can’t bear to miss an episode of “The Walking Dead” or “Killjoys” and her kindle is overflowing with books To Be Read. She keeps a photo from the original “Flash Gordon” movie serial on her writing desk for inspiration.

If you meet her in real life you’ll recognize her by the blingy earrings.

Veronica is a three time winner of the SFR Galaxy Award, and has received various other awards including the National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award for her SFR novel Escape From Zulaire.
