First of all, I must apologize for the interrupted service on this blog – I have been in and out of hospital for the best part of last month, and eventually had to say goodbye to my gallbladder, so I had to […]

From Metropolis to Blade Runner, the city of the future has been a subject for science fiction artists and film makers, who have vented both dreams and deep-seated fears. This blog post offers a collection of […]

In my last blog, I featured the work of artists who have, in their own different ways, imagined what it might be like to look at an alien sky. The artists I feature in this blog, have populated their […]

Astrid Nielsch commented on the post, The Fuzzy Line Between Science Fiction and Fantasy 2 months, 2 weeks ago

Personally, I think the distinction nowadays increasingly does not make sense, which is why I personally prefer the term “speculative fiction” to sum up both genres.
Good fantasy writers also base their world on […]

Astrid Nielsch commented on the post, Gazing at Alien Skies 2 months, 2 weeks ago

Interesting article, thanks! Well conceivably the eye would just compensate for the difference at least to some extend, just as it does in different artificial light conditions. Something like an in-built white […]

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to look at an alien sky? The sky of a planet whose atmosphere has a different chemical composition to that on Earth, resulting in entirely different cloud […]

Astrid Nielsch commented on the post, The Artful Collector: Collecting Strategies Part 3 “The Easy Way” 2 months, 2 weeks ago

Yes, exactly. For me at the moment, it comes down to a simple calculation of “how many hours at what fee” and currently I try to achieve, theoretically, minimum wages when putting a price on a painting. Simple as […]

About

Amazing Stories was originally published by the Experimenter Publishing Company in 1926 and was the world's first science fiction magazine. Its owner, publisher and first editor was Hugo Gernsback who has been called the Father of Science Fiction. Amazing Stories was published continuously - by different publishers - until 1995. It was resurrected between 1998 and 2000 and again between 2004 and 2005. Now it is back again, published by a new version of the Experimenter Publishing Company, in a new format, with a bright new future awaiting it.
