Cedar Sanderson wrote a new post, Interview with a Reader 2 weeks ago

ThumbnailAfter a series of interviews with self-published authors, I thought I would interview a reader. Or rather, three of them, Sanford Begley, Joseph Capdepon II, and Jack William Finley. (Jack is also a writer.) They […]

Cedar Sanderson commented on the post, I am a Reader 2 weeks, 3 days ago

I’m hearing this more and more from readers, as well. At the very least, wouldn’t it be nice to have a series where each book could stand on it’s own? So when you find book 3 you don’t have to hunt up book 1? […]

Cedar Sanderson wrote a new post, I am a Reader 2 weeks, 6 days ago

    Thumbnail
Before I was a writer, I was a reader. My mother tells me I’ve been reading since I was four, and I accept that, because I don’t remember a time when I couldn’t read. By the time I was in fourth grade, I was […]

Cedar Sanderson wrote a new post, Covering the Topic 4 weeks ago

ThumbnailThe biggest challenge to self-publishing, I found, was creating covers for my stories. Using the native Mac word processor Pages, formatting stories for epub version is a one-click process. Even doc files are easy […]

Cedar Sanderson wrote a new post, Writing Plans 1 month ago

ThumbnailI’m really tired, and need to study, I have an exam Monday on the Nervous System and the Brain. This week has been really busy, and I’ve been falling behind in my daily wordcount. Some days I make more than my […]

Cedar Sanderson wrote a new post, Interview with Stephanie Osborn 1 month, 1 week ago

ThumbnailI chose to interview Stephanie Osborn about her writing and publishing work because I really admire her Displaced Detective Series, and I had the pleasure of meeting her in person at LibertyCon 25 last year. She’s […]

Cedar Sanderson commented on the post, Lost In Space! Reviews of Unknown or Underappreciated Books Post #5 The Apocalypse Troll by David Weber 1 month, 2 weeks ago

Ah – one of my favorite Weber books! I happily re-read this every so often, which is more than I can say for some of the recent Harrington sagas. Thanks for the reminder – I need to make sure I have it as an ebook […]

Cedar Sanderson commented on the post, The Dreaded M-word 1 month, 2 weeks ago

The lack of interest may be avoided by thinking of it as starting a conversation with your readers about things that interest both of you. This could be as narrow as your own writing, but ideally you will offer […]

Cedar Sanderson wrote a new post, The Dreaded M-word 1 month, 2 weeks ago

    Thumbnail
A recent conversation about self and independent publishing led to me voicing my thoughts on what to do once the book is released. This will also hold true even for the traditionally published, as the publishers […]

Cedar Sanderson wrote a new post, To ISBN, or Not to ISBN? 1 month, 3 weeks ago

ThumbnailI’ve been on the brink of buying a ten-pack of ISBN numbers a half-dozen times the last few weeks. The reason I haven’t just pinched my nose and stepped off into the deep end is, quite frankly, money. For that ten […]

Cedar Sanderson wrote a new post, Interview with Pam Uphoff 2 months ago

ThumbnailThis week I interviewed another who had taken a less than traditional approach to publishing, Pam Uphoff. Pam has 12 titles on Amazon that I count, and I have been reading her excellent series Wine of the Gods, […]

Cedar Sanderson wrote a new post, Interview with John McClure 2 months, 1 week ago

ThumbnailAs I am preparing to self-publish my first novel, I thought I would talk to some friends who have gone down this road ahead of me, to see what they did, what they think now that it is done, and hopefully offer […]

Cedar Sanderson commented on the post, Edit Edit Edit Edit — Are We Done Yet? 2 months, 3 weeks ago

Just… don’t over-edit. There comes a time when you have to trust youself and stop messing with it. Like your cake that’s all gooey in the centre, what happens if you’re opening the door looking at that cake every […]

Cedar Sanderson wrote a new post, Vital Editing 2 months, 3 weeks ago

Once you have written something with a great hook, a beginning, middle, and satisfactory ending… you don’t have those? Well, that’s a blog for a different day! The next task is to edit what you have written. […]

Cedar Sanderson commented on the post, Writing With Children 2 months, 4 weeks ago

Actually, SF literature lacks kids books, F has quite a few of them these days… I’m also a librarian. What I was talking about and may not have been clear on (all those interruptions) was the lack of family life. […]

Cedar Sanderson commented on the post, Vital Editing 2 months, 4 weeks ago

Phil, as a compostion prof, I don’t know. I got an A in the class, and I got to help some of the other (younger) students out with their work through critique. Honestly, I had to take it, and I wasn’t too worried […]

Cedar Sanderson commented on the post, Just Write 3 months, 1 week ago

Like exercise, writing becomes more fluid and easier to do as we do it more and more often. I tell beginners all the time to not stress about editing, just write. If you don’t, you run the risk of freezing in fear […]

Phil, I do plan to use that as a topic sometime soon. I have a weekly post, so I am sure I will run out of ideas, and they are appreciated. As for marketing, that’s a whole ‘nother topic as well. I’ll be […]

Cedar Sanderson wrote a new post, Writing With Children 3 months, 1 week ago

There were army men in the bathtub when I stepped into it this morning. Why do we never read about things like this in the far-future worlds of space opera, or the misty-eyed sagas of fantasy? I picked them up […]

About

Amazing Stories was originally published by the Experimenter Publishing Company in 1926 and was the world's first science fiction magazine. Its owner, publisher and first editor was Hugo Gernsback who has been called the Father of Science Fiction. Amazing Stories was published continuously - by different publishers - until 1995. It was resurrected between 1998 and 2000 and again between 2004 and 2005. Now it is back again, published by a new version of the Experimenter Publishing Company, in a new format, with a bright new future awaiting it.
