Matt Mitrovich wrote a new post, Review: Gideon Smith and the Mechanical Girl by David Barnett 1 day, 19 hours ago

ThumbnailOne of the great things about being a book blogger is that you often get the chance to read books before they come out for the general public. Granted you don’t always have control over what books you get a to […]

This just came out today. It would have been useful on the section for robots: http://io9.com/7-totally-unexpected-outcomes-that-could-follow-the-sin-512600550

Haha, there are probably a lot of classic SF monsters I could have added but then Steve might have yelled at me for the length of the article. I decided to go with some of the big ones.

Matt Mitrovich wrote a new post, Why are we afraid of monsters? 1 week, 1 day ago

ThumbnailA while back I did a few articles regarding “science horror“, or works where the tropes of both SF and horror are blended together to create a gory speculative fun house. Recently, however, I began to think about […]

Matt Mitrovich commented on the post, So You Want to Write a Sequel to Your Novel… 2 weeks, 1 day ago

“As a movie critic I can be heard complaining about sequels that are simply the first story told again, only louder.”

That is a great point. You sometimes see books that are like that as well. O well, I will […]

ThumbnailHi, my name is Matt Mitrovich.

I have been an avid reader most of my life and like most book worms I had the desire see my own name in print one day. I wanted to witness my ideas and characters come to […]

Matt Mitrovich wrote a new post, From Fantasy England to Realistic Space Battles 4 weeks, 1 day ago

ThumbnailI had a spurt of reading energy so instead of giving you three weeks of reviews I decided to bundle them altogether into one article. Luckily for me I get to review books from two of my favorite authors.

    First […]

Matt Mitrovich wrote a new post, Convincing vs. Amazing: Balancing Your SF World 1 month ago

ThumbnailAuthor Paul J. McAuley (author of  ”A Very British History“, one of my favorite short stories) recently tweeted: The trouble with SF ‘worldbuilding’ is that it too often strives to be dully convincing, instead of […]

Matt Mitrovich wrote a new post, Review: The Difference Engine by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling 1 month, 2 weeks ago

ThumbnailI can’t think of a better novel to start my exploration of steampunk then The Difference Engine by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling. This award-winning novel, written by two controversial authors has been on my […]

Matt Mitrovich wrote a new post, Steampunk: An Overview of an Up and Coming Genre 1 month, 3 weeks ago

So what is steampunk exactly? Surprisingly it is difficult to describe, even <a […]

Matt Mitrovich wrote a new post, Review: Zombie Jesus and Other True Stories 2 months ago

ThumbnailHorror and alternate history are difficult genres to mash up. You just don’t see them together very often and despite my firm belief in the adaptability of alternate history, it is rare when you see an author […]

Matt Mitrovich commented on the post, Thinking Outside the Boiler: A Few Novels Not Always Classified as Steampunk 2 months, 1 week ago

I almost added The Peshawar Lancers, but since Stirling is the guest of honor at Steamcon I figured it has now been fully accepted into the steampunk community (http://www.steamcon.org/steamcon_v/index.php).

    As […]

Matt Mitrovich wrote a new post, Review: The Case of Charles Dexter Ward by HP Lovecraft 2 months, 1 week ago

ThumbnailA supernatural murder mystery is probably the best way to describe “The Case of Charles Dexter Ward“, the short novel by H.P. Lovecraft. Published after Lovecraft’s death in 1941, this tale combines tropes from […]

Matt Mitrovich wrote a new post, Thinking Outside the Boiler: A Few Novels Not Always Classified as Steampunk 2 months, 2 weeks ago

Matt Mitrovich wrote a new post, Review: At the Mountains of Madness by HP Lovecraft 2 months, 3 weeks ago

Matt Mitrovich wrote a new post, Review: The Games by Ted Kosmatka 3 months ago

ThumbnailI’m glad I started with The Games by Ted Kosmatka as my first foray into science horror. I don’t think I could pick a better book that seamlessly melded horror and SF tropes.

The year is 2044 and the 38th […]

About

Amazing Stories was originally published by the Experimenter Publishing Company in 1926 and was the world's first science fiction magazine. Its owner, publisher and first editor was Hugo Gernsback who has been called the Father of Science Fiction. Amazing Stories was published continuously - by different publishers - until 1995. It was resurrected between 1998 and 2000 and again between 2004 and 2005. Now it is back again, published by a new version of the Experimenter Publishing Company, in a new format, with a bright new future awaiting it.
